Saturday Night. 9pm. Spice Market in Meatpacking District. My Girlfriend’s 30th Birthday.
What on earth am I going to wear? I have to trade in my classy cocktail gowns for something edge, sexy, and YOUNG. I am not going to be one of those women at the table where the youngsters look over at us and feel sorry for the old ladies who probably only celebrate like this once in a blue moon.
As a New Yorker, I defaulted to a Little Black Dress (LBD). I’ve been trying to branch out in colors for other occasions, but the little black dress seemed like the perfect fit for this special birthday celebration.
This is the Elizabeth and James “Such a Tease” dress (yes, that’s right. I am over 12 AND wearing something Mary Kate & Ashley designed). It’s an elegant little black dress, but has edgy cutouts and designs around the midsection, it is form fitting, and a little bit sexy. I’m not going to lie, it is really form fitting, it was a tight squeeze, but I made it happen.
These photos give you a better look at the intricate detail on these JCrew lace tights. Despite being so delicate, they have held up fairly well over the years. You can also see these Burberry boots more clearly. A stunning shoe, but one that doesn’t get as much use as it deserves in this walking city.
And last, but not least another perfect blow out from Salon De Larue in Park Slope Brooklyn (don’t even ask how I ended up there, but they are fabulous). You can also see the details of the back of this dress in this photo.
When do you wear your LBD?
